For the James Bond film “Live and Let Die,” producer Albert Broccoli asked Master Salvador Dalí to create a deck of tarot cards. He, inspired by his wife Gala (both cartomance lovers), started the work, and although the agreement was later thwarted, he followed the project, creating these beautiful letters full of surrealism. Each major arcane and minor arcane, are a work of art of the great painter. This tarot saw the light with a limited edition in 1984 and since then, it is a mystical deck difficult to achieve.
Based on his own and others’ masterpieces, from antiquity to modernity, Dalí demonstrated creativity and ingenuity with this “surreal tarot kaleidoscope” from the history of European art. TASCHEN presents the 78 arcane for tarot and art lovers. It includes a pamphlet by the German author Johannes Fiebig, with an introduction to Dalí’s life and the making-of the project, as well as an explanation of the composition of each arcane, its meanings and reading tips. The celebrated Dalí was a great extravagant character of the twentieth century.
